Matthew D. Skilling

Background

Matthew D. Skilling

Matt moved to Northeast Georgia in 2010 and loves working and living in this part of Georgia.  After law school, Matt worked in a statewide litigation practice for nearly five years before moving to Northeast Georgia.  During this time, Matt litigated Commercial, Insurance, Business, and General Civil matters across the state.  In 2010, Matt joined Sanders & Ranck, P.C. as an Associate, and he was named a Partner in Sanders, Ranck & Skilling, P.C. in January 2013.

Matt enjoys having a diverse litigation practice, but he also represents clients in transactional matters outside of court.  He represents clients that range from individuals in litigation or domestic matters to “mom and pop businesses” to governmental entities to large corporations, and he has been retained as local counsel in the Mountain Judicial Circuit on numerous occasions.  Matt’s practice areas include:

• General Civil Practice (including Contract and Real Estate disputes, Personal Injury, and Wrongful Death)

• Domestic (Divorce, Custody, Adoption, Child Support, Grandparent Rights, Contempt, and Modification)

• Business and Commercial Litigation

• Probate / Wills / Estates

• Contracts

• Landlord / Tenant Law

Matt handles many complex matters and disputed cases such as contested Adoptions involving the involuntary termination of parental rights, Quiet Title cases involving disputed title to Real Estate, Will contests, Contractual disputes, Personal Injury and Wrongful Death, and Estate disputes.  Because Matt has handled so many contested Probate and Superior Court cases, he is particularly familiar with the pitfalls and considerations that clients should have when trying to avoid litigation or take proactive steps to decrease the likelihood of litigation.  Matt’s clients, even those without litigation concerns, benefit from his understanding of these issues because Matt has the knowledge and experience to prepare documents in a manner that is unique to each situation and suited to accomplish his clients’ objectives.

Matt is licensed to practice in all State and Superior Courts of the State of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.

Matt attended high school in Macon, the University of Georgia as an undergrad, and graduate school at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
