Estate Planning

Estate planning ensures that your final wishes are carried out after your death or if you become incapacitated by injury or illness. Our attorneys can help you cover your needs with wills, living wills, advance directives, powers of attorney, and other documents aimed at providing you and your loved ones with peace of mind.

Wills and Trusts

Wills are perhaps the most well-known estate-planning tool, yet surveys show many people don’t bother to make a will.  Even if you have modest assets, you still need a will to ensure your property is distributed correctly and by the person(s) you trust.  Without a will, state laws determine how your property will be divided among your heirs, and this means distribution could be contrary to your wishes. However, a good Will is only one part of the consideration because many assets can pass outside of Probate.  Our attorneys counsel Estate Planning clients on these issues to be sure that probate and non-probate assets are protected and handled according to our client’s wishes.  In some cases, a trust may be a good choice for a client depending on family and asset circumstances and our firm can offer assistance and recommendations on the use of a trust.
